CREATING TRULY STUNNING BENCH TOPS
As they say, the kitchen is the heart of the home and an integral part of any kitchen is the benchtop, which needs to be both functional and aesthetically pleasing. Choosing a finish can be a daunting process as there is a range of options on the market to create your concrete benchtop.
Permacolour has a versatile range of products suited to create stunning concrete benchtops, as well as a range of sealers to provide the ultimate protection, ensuring the surface is protected and easily cleanable. For sealing benchtops it is important to select a sealer that is resistant to heat and chemicals and that is food grade safe. Other considerations will include the finished appearance of the sealer as well as the gloss factor.
The casting can be poured “in situ” or done off-site and once cured moved into place. Once cured, the benchtop is then sealed. Another option when using this method includes grinding and polishing to give a polished/honed look. A wide variety of coloured aggregates available on the market means there is no limit to creating unique, one-of-a-kind benchtops.
Microtopping: Permacolour’s Micro-topping is an alternative to raw concrete that still gives the appearance of a cement look. Since it is cement-based Microtopping is ideal for creating a concrete inspired benchtop, with a mottled finish. Micro Topping is applied by trowel, approximately 1.5mm thick on top of an existing concrete base. Once completed, a suitable Permacolour sealer needs to be applied.
